Artist’s statement
My art is inspired by the relationship between color, design, and the world around me. I draw deeply from nature, a sense of place, and a connection to something greater than myself. Color plays a central role in my work— it’s how I express emotion and capture fleeting but powerful moments, much like the landscapes, people, and experiences that inspire me.
I aim to create visually compelling work that invites reflection, emotion, and a deeper connection to the present.
We live in a world of contrasts — where creativity, beauty, and joy exist alongside hunger, poverty, and the lasting effects of war. My work holds space for these realities, reflecting both the vulnerability of humanity and the resilience that continues to emerge even in difficult times.

About the artist ...
Lynne (Elizabeth Heiser) Blake
Lynne (Heiser) Blake grew up in York, PA, and fell in love with art and all things involving creativity at an early age. She owes her early drawing education to Betty Edwards' famous book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, and later through years of study. Lynne graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts, Summa Cum Laude, and second in her class from Moore College of Art and Design in 1992.
Balancing her love for design, illustration, and photography with painting, Lynne lived in New York City for a few years before moving to the Washington, DC, area in 1995. There, she continued her studies at the Art League School in Alexandria under various instructors, and at Yellow Barn Studios with Walt Bartman, while working at Discovery Communications as an award-winning graphic designer and art director. She briefly worked for artist and businesswoman Barbara Levine before moving to Italy to study art full-time at Studio Art Centers International (SACI). She received her Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Painting from SACI in 2002.
Upon returning to the D.C. area in 2002, Lynne began showing her work in local juried exhibits and select solo exhibits while running a graphic design firm and working as an art director. In 2022, she began studying again with Yellow Barn Studio founder and artist Walter Bartman; it was then that she fell in love with "Plein Air" (outdoor) painting. The challenge of capturing the light and contemplative experience of immersion in the spirit of place resonates in her paintings. Lynne continues to experiment with mark-making, subtle abstraction, and figurative drawing and painting. Evolving and growing as an artist is a lifelong journey, and she hopes to share the excitement and delight she gets from creating with viewers of her work.
